![]() About Ol' BobI have always enjoyed making people feel welcome and right at home. What better way to do this than to do it with food. From my early years as a manager of a motel coffee shop in Daytona Beach, Florida, to working in the Zodiac Room at Nieman Marcus while attending the Culinary Arts School at El Centro College. Food has always been an important part of my life. In 1990, my wife Carole and I bought the Real Pit BBQ restaurant in Irving, Texas. We were fortunate to have been tutored under a "Real Pit Master" and it was during this time that we came to realize the love affair Texans have with good barbecue. Our restaurant was small, cozy and very family oriented. My wife and I have been blessed with lifelong friends that we never would have had were it not for this experience. Over the eighteen years we owned it, we watched families grow, children go through school and graduate, and some enter and return from military service. One long-time customer brought a colleague in for lunch. After greatly enjoying their food, the colleague asked his friend why he came so often. His friend replied "Well, it's kind of like going to uncle Bob's for supper". Carole and I worked very hard to ensure that every time you walked into our restaurant you are presented with a genuine down-home experience. This is the atmosphere we provided our customers and this is the love we put into our BBQ sauces. Ol' Bob's BBQ sauce was handed down from that old Pit Master. Folks came from as far as Russia to taste our true Texas BBQ. It is something we have put our heart and soul into for over 20 years. I have always loved meeting, talking with, and enjoying people. It was often said that anyone could cook a brisket, it's what you put on it that makes it barbecue. We covered ours with love. |
